Batten Fencing Online

Our story

It started with a favour Jonny didn't want to do.

Jonny's trade was high-end windows and doors. Big bi-folds, oversized sliders, offset pivot doors. Precision work, measured in millimetres, and nothing to do with fencing. This is the story of how one begrudged favour became Batten Fencing Online.

The favour

A mate got stuck, and Jonny said no.

A mate was building a job that needed a freestanding batten fence and couldn't get anyone to even quote it. So he asked Jonny.

Jonny said no. Everyone welds these fences. We do windows, we don't weld. The mate insisted. Jonny begrudgingly agreed, and designed it as well as a welded fence can be designed: laser-cut jigs, preheated bottom rails, expert TIG welding.

The result was okay. Not up to his standard. The heat of welding pulls aluminium out of alignment, so the battens warped. No amount of skill at the torch fixes a problem that's baked into the process.

Which raised the obvious question, the one this entire company was later built on: why can't these be screwed together, like a window?

The answer, on the bench: battens screwed into a machined baseplate, no torch anywhere near them.

Prototype to product

One design passed pool fence testing. Everything changed.

The design work began with a modest goal: offer fences to the windows-and-doors customers Jonny already had. Prototypes were built and refined, and with careful design and a decent slice of luck, one design passed pool fence testing.

That was the game-changer. It was also the moment this stopped being a sideline and became a business of its own. Batten Fencing Online was set up to do one thing properly.

We're not a fencing contractor selling product on the side. The product is the business. Everything since has gone into developing it: the system, the processes, and the people who build it. It hasn't always been smooth sailing, but we're proud of the team and the product we have, and we'll keep improving both.

Our own factory

Designed, tooled, cut and finished in Landsdale, WA.

Every batten fence we sell is manufactured at our own factory in Landsdale, Western Australia. We're not a reseller badging someone else's product.

We designed the system, we tool it, we cut it, we finish it, and we support it. Holding the whole process under one roof is how a window-maker's tolerances survive in a fencing product.

It costs us more. We think the fence, and the country, are worth it.

The question we get asked most

“Will it pass inspection?”

Before colour, before price, before delivery, nearly every pool fencing customer asks a version of the same thing. It's the right question. A pool barrier that fails isn't a design problem, it's a pull-it-down-and-start-again problem, usually discovered at the worst possible moment.

Most suppliers answer with a line about “meeting Australian regulations” and leave the buyer to hope. We'd rather hand over the evidence.

The evidence, on request

Our pool fencing systems are engineered and strength-tested to AS 1926.1-2012 by a NATA-accredited laboratory: every profile, including angled and corner configurations. We hold the independent test reports, engineering certification and Form 15s, and we'll email them to you. If your certifier or council wants paperwork, ask and it's in your inbox the same day.

The people behind it

The team in Landsdale, on the phone and on the floor.

Our factory team in Landsdale does the cutting, machining and assembly. Our support team answers the phone and checks your measurements before your quote goes out, because a mistake caught at quoting stage costs nothing, and one caught on site costs a weekend.

When you email us a rough sketch of your boundary line, a person here measures it up, not a ticketing queue.

Who we're not for

If you want a contractor to do the whole job, that's not us.

We supply the system, the documentation and the support. You or your installer put it up. If that doesn't suit, we'll point you to an installer rather than sell you something you'll regret.

Homeowners and tradies follow our builds on Instagram, where we post real installs, including the ones that don't go smoothly.

A note from Jonny

Founder, Batten Fencing Online

This company was built on one question: why can't a batten fence be screwed together, like a window? Every order that leaves Landsdale is the answer, cut to your measurements and held to a window-maker's tolerances.

It hasn't always been smooth sailing. But we're proud of the team and the product we have, and we'll keep improving. If you're weighing up a fence, start with a quote or get a sample in your hands. Either way, you'll be dealing with us directly.
